Precision sensing and control are the backbone of my experiments, enabling me to achieve the extraordinary measurements that LIGO demands. By rigorously noise budgeting—identifying and accounting for all noise sources such as electronics noise and polarization variations—I refine my understanding of complex systems. Stabilizing variables like frequency noise and intensity fluctuations allows me to linearize and control dynamic elements, ensuring precise measurements. In my work, this often involves phase measurements using optical interferometry, where I routinely measure displacement noise at the sub-picometer and femtometer levels, pushing the boundaries of precision and accuracy.
